Project trip to Ibiza, day 4-6

On Thursday, after working on the photo essay, we went on a visit to a biomass company in Santa Eulalia. We met special engineer Raul, who told us about different forms of renewable energy and how it could be used in the future. The following Friday, the student groups showed their finished products during the school's open day. It was really enjoyable to see all the students present their finished work. The outdoor concert was the highlight of the open day. Once we had finished the activities at IES Algarb, we went to the beach to participate in a kayak excursion. After a short introduction to the art of paddling, we went out to the open sea to touch the poseidona. We also explored some beautiful caves and played a few kayaking games which eventually made everyone spend some time in the water. Sadly, the next day it was time for everyone to depart, and everyone agreed that we all had enjoyed our stay in Ibiza.

Project trip to Ibiza, day 1-3

After a long day of traveling, we all finally arrived to beautiful Ibiza. The students were greeted by their host families and we all travelled to our accomodations. In the evening, there was an international party, where all the countries in the project brought some typical food from their country. Later, we experienced local folk dance and mucic. In addtion, some of the students had to participate in the entertainment to everyones pleasure. The students instantly made new friends, and everyone had a great time. This was a perfect start of the project week.

Over the next days, the students worked on their tasks in groups. They presented themselves (task 1) to each other in various, mixed groups. When the tasks were completed, we went to the town hall where the Mayor of Ibiza talked to us about the state of the city, and we got to ask him some questions. Then, there was time for the students to do a gymkhana. They walked around the old town, recording films where they danced, answered questions and found important places around the old castle. After lunch, we were taken on a walk in the new part of the city. We walked around the harbour of Ibiza and saw some interesting architecture in an exclusive part of the town.

On Wednesday, we had a conference at school before we went on a guided trip to Ses Salinas Natural Park. We viewed the salt production areas, and walked around the National Park guided by an excellent representative from "Amics de la Terra", called Juanjo. This group does an amazing job to preserve the enviroment on Ibiza, and he enlightened us on several interesting topics. After the guided tour we had a nice time at the beach doing different activities like swimming, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.

Visit to Münster. Today's trip was a visit to Münster, about an hour's coach ride from Rees. First stop was a photo outside the town hall, before we went inside to visit the Peace Hall where the Peace of Münster was written in 1648. We also visited the Stadtmuseum to learn about the Development of Münster from its early days as Mimigernaford through the Medieval period and into the 20th Century. The City was destroyed during the Second World War and has been reconstructed in the same style.

Tuesday February 16th

Today we had a day at Gymnasium Aspel. The students had prepared a presentation about the history of their city. They had looked at different periods that were important for the city's history and focused on buildings, inhabitants, citizenship and safety/defence. Each country presented the history of their cities for the whole group.

The Norwegian students talk about Oslo

Spanish students talk about Ibiza City
The German students talk about Rees

After these presentations, the students worked in groups and compared the five cities. They looked at inhabitants, buildings, citizenship and safety/defence. They made posters about this.
